Automatic GoCardless Receipts

Automatic GoCardless receipts mean a branded PDF is generated and emailed when GoCardless marks a Direct Debit payment as confirmed — no daily send calendar to maintain. GoCardless does not email customers a branded PDF receipt by default; Receipt Maker’s Pro Auto Mode fills that gap.

Failed, cancelled or pending payments do not trigger automatic sends. You can still send manually anytime, or snooze individual customers.

Auto Mode vs Manual Mode

Auto Mode (Pro)

After you enable it, each newly confirmed payment gets a receipt automatically. Payments already confirmed before you turned Auto on are not backfilled, so you avoid a sudden backlog.

Manual Mode

Automatic sends stay off. You choose when to send from the Customers page or dashboard — ideal when every receipt should be a deliberate action.

Turn on automatic receipts

  1. Connect GoCardless and configure your receipt design.
  2. Connect email delivery in Settings.
  3. On the Dashboard, enable Auto Receipts (requires active Pro).
  4. New confirmed payments then generate and email a PDF — usually within minutes.

FAQ: Automatic GoCardless receipts

When does an automatic receipt send?

When GoCardless marks the payment as confirmed. Pending, failed or cancelled payments do not trigger Auto Mode.

Do I need a schedule or calendar?

No. Auto Mode reacts to confirmed payment events — there is no daily or monthly send window to maintain.

Can I pause receipts for one customer?

Yes. Use Snooze on the Customers page to stop automatic sends for that customer while leaving Auto Mode on for everyone else.

Is Auto Mode available on Free?

No. Auto Mode requires Pro. Free and Pro both support manual sending; Free has monthly customer and email limits.
